Would you buy a car made by Apple?
For the past few years rumors have been flying around the interwebs about Apple creating an autonomous electric vehicle; and within the past couple of weeks, these rumors have gained a lot of traction. Just the other day, Apple is to be in talks with Hyundai about production for its electric vehicle, which may come as early as 2024.
We all know Apple for its Mac line-up, iPod, iWatch, and of course the iPhone; we know that Apple has this space locked in with devotees flocking to get the latest and greatest from the Cupertino tech giant. But getting into the automotive space is not Apple's forte.
Rumors of an Apple car started back in 2014 with “Project Titan”, but the buzz about it simmered down over the years, until December of 2020 when news spread that Apple is still working on a car with plans on releasing it within the next few years.
Apple is rumored to be aiming for a self-driving electric vehicle where the user will input their destination and chillax while the car does the rest.
Apple is said to be finishing up talks with Hyundai to produce its future car and could be based on Hyundai’s E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). According to Hyundai’s website, their E-GMP, this platform will have a range of over 500km on the full charge, can be charged up to 80% within 18mins through high-speed charging, can do 0-100kph in 3.5sec and have a top speed of 260kph. If Apple’s car can have stats like that, Tesla will have to watch its back.
Like I said earlier, the automotive space is completely new to Apple and yes they will most likely be be partnering with Hyundai to produce their first vehicle. But the question, is when Apple does come out with a car, will you buy one or get something a more experienced automotive brand?
